Mixing bowl composition
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
For more information on any ingredient, please take a look at our Dog Food Ingredient Glossary
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.

73 out of 100 - Good
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin: United Kingdom
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
The most common categories of technological additives include preservatives and antioxidants, gelling agents and thickeners and probiotics.
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

Switched to Naturediet about a year ago having tried a few different foods. Really helped my dogs tummy and skin issues, won't be switching away.
Has one of the highest meat contents and best rating on here (for my budget).
I like that it can be cupboard stored, as I found fridge/freezer storage products was difficult with limit space and a large breed. This means I have been able to bulk buy (month at a time rather than few days), so saving money (can get for around £1 per carton not the £1.40RRP suggested here).
Overall, would give it 5*, very happy :)

Are there any reviews for this product that are more recent that 5 years ago?
Urshie Lindsay• 5 months ago
Hi Lindsay it’s 5 months since you posted but only saw now. I give this food 5* as my dog had diarrhoea on every food until I changed to this food. I feed the lamb one.

Having fed naturediet for the past 18 months to a fickle frenchie I can't say a bad word about it. She's tried numerous foods (introduced slowly) And suffered terribly with her ears which the vet said was allergy related- she has a tray a day and 120g of nature replies dry food and all is good. Bitiba.com do really reasonable deals on the food too. Never had any issues with plastic, runny poops etc

My in-laws use Nature Diet without any issues, I was thinking of changing from Harrington's to Nature Diet but these reviews have put me off, how can it get a 4 out of 5 but get such bad reviews? Is it because the meat is so natural that it's going off when not stored properly?
Dee Newsome• 6 years ago
I'm currently looking through this site to find a well reviewed and rated 5.0 raw complete (currently using Orijen 5.0 dry food ) But after seeing Naturesdiet on here I just have to leave a comment. I've never used it for my dogs and I never will. I live a couple of miles from where this is made in Norfolk and a close friend worked in the customer service department. Left within a year, the complaints for this food were through the roof and despite the discount she quickly took her own dog off of it!

After hearing my friend try natures diet puppy, I decided to try this for my pups.
I thought I was doing the best for them.
I've always weaned my lips on Royal canin starter mouse then onto butchers choice puppy. I have never had any trouble what so ever and the only reason I changed is because I thought it would be better for them and I like to give them the best start I can.
But in the two weeks they have been on this product, they have had nothing but loose stools. So I have decided to start using butchers puppy again. After reading many reviews I'm glad I have decided to stop using natures altogether.

Wow after reading these reviews, I think I will be sticking to Naturo!

I had fed my boy Naturediet since he was a puppy. I was always very impressed with it. I did find the odd pice of blue plastic, but just fished it out. The food always looked and smelt good and what came out the other end was very scoopable! But then they moved to a new factory and changed the production method, although apparently not the ingredients. The food is now mushier than before and the trays take quite a bit of cleaning before you can put them in the recycling. My boy became rather windy and his poos were rather squelchy. So sadly after 3 years I have changed him onto another food and he is now back to normal in the wind and poo department!!!

I am afraid this is not the first time Naturediet has had problems with their manufacturing. The last time people complained that Naturediet had not taken them seriously. That and the fact that they are using rice fillers and Naturediet is not cheap, has made me rethink their position on my much read Food and behaviour Article. I have now removed them.
I cannot be seen to be recommending a company that uses filler and also is having once again manufacturing problems.

I've found Naturediet's Puppy/Junior food to be a very good, palatable, digestible and excellent value wet food for our seven month old pug (in conjunction with top quality kibble and treats he has a lovely coat and demeanour and his "output" is as it should be!). He will soon be ready to make the transition to their adult foods and we will be happy to keep loyal to this brand. It is rather curious, though, that their ingredients list shows "Vegetables" when it is in fact merely carrot - so why not just list it as carrot?! The only exception is with the Fish and Senior/Lite foods which have carrot and potato, but again, why not just list these perfectly fine and nutritious ingredients as they are? Likewise with the ground bone; a bit of digging on Naturediet's website tells you that its source is the main meat used in the food - so again, why not list it as such?! For the sake of these very minor amendments to the ingredients list I would presume it would be rated (even) higher and have the magnifying glass highlighted! As an aside, if they used, say, organic brown rice instead of the white rice they do then, although it may increase the price somewhat this would surely be one of the best wet foods out there. Oh, and keep up the good work on this excellent site!! Cheers. :)

Sorry to hear about some of you experiencing problems. I have been buying Naturediet for years without problems.
Angie Liversedge• 10 years ago
Well Andrinkie seems to have had similar problems to me!DO NOT USE IS MY ADVICE - here's my trustpitot review :Having used Naturediet sensitive for my 2 dogs for some time I ordered 3 cases from Titmuss in November. The first case was fine but upon opening the second there was a terrible smell and it was very hard to break up - and both dogs turned their noses up and wouldn't eat it (chocolate labs, yes, notorious for eating anything!). Tried another tray - same.I tried some from the third batch - same - either something had changed or something had gone wrong in the manufacture. I phoned Titmuss to be told they had other similar complaints and would probably refund and ask me to dispose of them. They promised to get back to me.
Nothing.I phoned again to be told they were still looking into it (3 weeks later).
Waited again. You've guessed...nothing.I emailed.
Reply received - 'please see response from manufacturer'.
It read..'manufacturing process has not changed, .food was soft when tested...customer should feed it to dogs as we have had no similar complaints' - oh, really? So am I making this up for the sake of £24 quid??? No.Astounded, I respond accordingly expressing my views.
I am utterly dumbfounded that Titmuss thought that was good customer care. Only when I pressed did Titmuss ask Naturediet to analyse a small amount of the food. And once again.....nothing.
No' thanks we have received the food', until I chased again.Weeks later and, you've guessed again, nothing.
No 'we've tested it and...'
Nothing!
Subsequently I have thrown the food away and moved to a different food.
It staggers me that in 2014 a company can ride rough-shot over customers in this way. Well Titmuss, you can keep the £24 I have just tipped - perhaps you might like to put it to some training in customer care for your staff.I rest my case!http://www.trustpilot.co.uk...

In my experience with NatureDiet as a retailer they are also the first to say replace any trays that aren't up to what the customer expects so I am surprised by this. In general you should have any problems with NatureDiet and it is a very good food.
Angie Liversedge Rob Elliott• 10 years ago
Hi Rob, Naturediet are not my retailer - GW Titmuss are and they have been less tan supportive. I see from some Googling that I am not the only one to be fobbed off by Naturediet. On the plus side - if there is a positive to all this - my dog's coats have improved since going onto Collards wet trays.
Rob Elliott Angie Liversedge• 10 years ago
Sorry I ment that I am a retailer and when ever I have had problems with NatureDiet sold to a customer NatureDiet have replaced the food without and query.
Lell Gee Angie Liversedge• 9 years ago
I think that because this food is not full of chemicals it can go off. You probably got old stock which is a problem with GW Titmuss and not Naturediet. You should contact Naturediet and complain to them. Ive found this food to be very good but I too have had problems with GW Titmuss and their customer care.

NATUREDIET PUPPY/JUNIOR FOOD : PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT FOR YOUR PUPS/DOGS BEFORE THOROUGHLY CHECKING COLOUR & SMELL.The company Naturediet refused to take responsibility for a serious problem with this food - it made both our pups Daphne and Sara ill after they were fed a pack of this with an expiry date of a year from now.All complaints to their Facebook page are removed and emailing customer services results in a generic email response saying it is not their problem but the retailers.amazon.co.uk supplied this to us on a regular basis and they have been exceptionally helpful when we complained to them and have refunded all money for the puppy food and adult packs .However, our main concern is that someone else feeds a rotten pack to their puppy and makes it seriously ill - or god forbid worse!!They have comments on their Facebook page about this problem and the one star reviews on amazon show this is not a one-off problem.I have a full box of this product which is clearly faulty and rotten - many of the packs are clearly full of air and even some of the ones which look ok smell and look dreadful. I am keeping the food until I find out who ultimately regulates pet food companies so I can send samples to them. This company's behaviour is borderline criminal!! If this was human food ever last batch would be removed from shelves and recalled.

Was using JWB for a sensitive 2 year old Golden retriever, his digestion was fine, but over the course of the last year he has steadily begun to not enjoy meal times, I felt like I had to encourage him to eat!
Usually he can't tolerate the wet foods, but now we have found Nature diet he is enjoying his food again. For now as we are still introducing it we are mixing the two foods, 50:50 dry and wet. The food is convenient, not too smelly (although I haven't tried all the flavours), and agrees with him. I like that I can see the rice and carrots in the meat, and am slowly trying him with new flavours.
Started with just chicken, and now on to chicken and lamb (which I can't find everywhere, although the puppy one has this combination also).
3 trays does seem a lot though, and I think it would cost too much (£4 a day) for him to be completely on the Nature diet, without the cheaper JWB (£1.50 a day) biscuits mixed in.
Nice food, would recommend (although if the tray lids were easier to peel off it would make it a lot easier!)

our 2 shih tzu's eat 1/4 of a tray each, every day over 2 meals, they do have 2 -4 mini marrow bone biscuits aswell.I find that there is no way they would ever eat a whole tray each which is the recommended amount.! is very fussy and this is the only food he will eat
colliemad• 10 years ago
I've given this to one of my dogs that has a very sensitive digestion, he cannot cope with any of the commercial foods and like all my dogs is fed a raw diet. I use this as a holiday food as its the only complete his stomach can cope with. I normally only buy the sensitive but have on occasions used the lamb and this hasn't caused any problems. The turkey and rabbit though doesn't seem to suit him at all

i have fed my chowchow natures for three years and she loves it, she also has a percentage of Gentle cold pressed dog food and she equally loves this too, the gentle is used mainly as treats. Anyway now and again we have had a damaged tray and it is easy to identify, so any of you who have posted to say your dog was ill after eating it its your fault as you can clearly see and smell its off. The packaging can be damaged it only needs a small hole in the packaging which will turn the food as it does not contain preservatives to keep it fresh. Just contact the retailer and they should reimburse you.
Its an excellent food, 65% fresh meat that is fit for human consumption, this is what a canine needs. I certainly wouldn't stop feeding it to my chow just because the packaging had been damaged and rendered the food off, this is probably done at the retailers or in transit and in my experience of purchasing for three years I've only come across the odd tray damaged now and then, its certainly not been common. I just throw that food away and go onto the next pack. If after purchase I had found many trays off i would just get reimbursed from the retailer. Its a very good price too for a quality food.
If i could change it in anyway I would get rid of the rice and use sweet potato instead, If that happened it would be the most perfect man made dog food, IMO.
I would love to feed a raw diet but am not equipped to do so but i know many raw feeders do use Natures for convenience if they are away for instance and need to have someone else feed there dog, this scenario speaks volumes i believe if a raw fed dog can also eat this dog food without problems.
Heidi Kingston marge simpson• 8 years ago
The packs that were off certainly were easy to spot and in the past I did just throw them away. But all the food from the new factory that I tried my boy on, did not agree with him. It would be very unfortunate if over 20 packs, purchased at different times, in a variety of flavours were all off!
