Manufacturer's product description

" When your dog reaches its senior years, their nutritional requirements begin to change as they adopt a more sedentary life. Your dog may be more prone to joint and muscle difficulties or they may develop certain food sensitivities to things that once caused them no problems at all. Just like humans, as our dogs advance in years, they need to be properly cared for and this includes providing them with the correct balance of nutrition specific to their maturity.

Nature's Harvest Senior is a gently steamed complete wet food for mature dogs made with chicken & brown rice. It's a simple formula that is kind to your dog's digestive system, which may become sluggish as they get older. Our protein source, chicken, is of human grade which means that the chicken used in our Nature's Harvest Senior food can also be eaten by humans too. It's not uncommon for some dog foods to be made with parts of protein sources that are not for human consumption.

Why chicken? We've chosen chicken with its high vitamin, protein and fat content because most dogs can digest poultry easily.

Why brown rice? We use brown rice to add fibre which aids in the binding of the food, allowing for a firm stool which is always good if you are the one doing the picking up! Fibre also keeps dogs regular and this becomes more important for aging digestive systems found in senior dogs.

Why steam? Steaming allows the food to cook gently over a longer period keeping the food moist without destroying all the nutrients within.

Nature's Harvest Senior does not contain any meat or vegetable nasties, fillers, artificial flavours, colours or preservatives that are often found in other pet foods. These can trigger allergies in older dogs that lead to unnecessary health problems.

For senior dogs, it's all about the joints and limbs. That's why we boost our recipes for Nature's Harvest Senior with added glucosamine & chondroitin to support the maintenance of joints and limbs. We also include natural rubbed herbs and vitamin C to promote antioxidant properties that protects cells from damage from free radicals (nasty, invisible molecules) present in the environment, as well as adding yeast extract which strengthens immune systems and staves away sniffles that older dogs with more mature immune systems may be prone to. We also add good fats such as omega 3 and 6 which are important for the maintenance of healthy skin and glossy coats. As your dog gets older, there's no reason why they can't maintain their good looks!! "

Can anyone recommend the best senior diet with the lowest phosphate content to protect my 15 year old s kidneys please. Currently he has Natures Harvest with a scoop of Eden s Catch of the Day. Also its hard toknow what treats to feed. The supermarket ones have less meat content so actually tend to have less phosphate. But I like Arden Grange s treats and so does he.
