" Lukullus Cold Pressed Chicken with Trout is a premium complete dry dog food. It provides your pet with a great-tasting, balanced meal, packed with vital nutrients. The cold pressing process helps the food to retain its natural flavour and essential nutrients. No artificial additives are necessary because nature provides everything that your dog needs.
Lukullus dry food recipes have been lovingly crafted using only top-quality ingredients which appeal to the palates of dogs with good taste. Tender chicken meat is rich in animal proteins and trout is source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids. They are combined with brown rice and fruits such as pears and apples. Lukullus dry food delivers an optimal combination of vitamins and minerals. The enriching nutritious oils contribute to the health of your dog’s coat and skin. This dry dog food is easy to digest and only contains natural preservatives. "
The rating seems a little bit harsh on this food for the beef and duck/lamb varieties where the meat proportion is higher and maize content much lower.

My boys have been on the angus beef and duck version for a while and very pleased with it but Zooplus has not had this in stock for a while now and had to switch to the duck and lamb and then the beef and trout... dogs not so keen on these two, hope they get it back in soon

I have recently bought a bag of kibbles, the one with duck and lamb. My 4 dogs tolerate it well, but my problem is the difference in kcal they provide online-3585/kg, and the one printed on the bag 3289/kg. I have contacted the customer service support, but no feedback so far…

I have got a reply, in which they admitted the info about kcal on printed bags and online info of the item about kcal might not be updated, but things will be ok in the future…

I use the Angus beef and Duck for my two shih tzu cross boys (one 11 and the other 15) and I can honestly say this agrees with them more then any other food they have had, the older one of mine has intolerances to several things now but not to any of the ingredients here, its a very reasonable price on zooplus. I worried the chunky pieces might be a problem for smaller dogs but not at all, I mix in a little Lukullus wet food mostly the Duck and Veal grain free and they clean their bowls . No gassiness and firm poos. excellent ingredients at a price better then most.

I have an American bulldog and until now I have fed him with Purina Pro Plan. But I'm not happy with this food. The fur looks in a bad condition and falls very much. Is there an American Bulldog owner that could recomand me this food?:D I would be very grateful for a helpful answer.

When it come to meat it is usually pork and/or beef that a Hypoallergenic food does not contain amongst other ingredients that usually cause allergies, my dog has always been on a Hypoallergenic diet (7 years) and i have never known a food to be classed as Hypoallergenic because it does not have chicken.

I’ve had my dog for 5 years. He was a 2-year old Spanish rescue when he first came & he just would not eat regular kibble, high end or cheap & nasty. It took me nearly a year to find Lukullus & I bought the trial-sized packs in all ingredients. He chose Barbary duck & lamb & we’ve never looked back. I mix it with a bit of raw (adjusting the portion size of course) & it’s a clean dish every time. He’s not keen on the biggest bits but I just snap them in half with my fingers. Smaller firm poops, no smelly wind.

After trying Applaws, which I probably is the better food, for about a year i was fed up with spending a lot of money and it being left all the time. When I found this food which was only slightly less quality, and my dog doesn't seem to be intolerate to grain, which is only thing that gets marked down on this food. We used to mix both foods with treats to get him to eat it but after a telling off from Vets for weight we stopped all treats and only fed this. He now eats it most of the time and his movements are a lot more consistent and easy to pick up. He never eats a full portion so goes even further and he is vibrant and healthy. Can't be beaten for the price..

I think it's a great food. I've been feeding my dog a mixture of lukullus and origen for over 2 years and all his allergies and health problems disappeared. Charlie (my dog) always picks this food to eat first, so it must be highly palatable. His eyes, skin and coat really cleared out while on this. Highly recommended

I've tried my two dogs on this food for just over a month, and I really like the improvement that I've seen in their faeces, their smell, their energy and their general health. This is especially prevalent in my 10 year old Jack Russell Terrier, Alfie, as he suffers from colitis and this is the best food he has tried so far for his tum. However, I am not convinced about the kieselgur and clay in the food. There has been very little research done on the effects of kieselgur if eaten, but it can be very hazardous if inhaled. Clay was used in ancient medicine for treatment of digestive ailments, but it was only ever used as a short-term remedy. Because of this, I am unsure about using the food long term but prefer to use it in conjunction with another food (swapping between the two, giving breaks from the Lukullus).Overall, this food is very good and I would recommend it for a 'detox', but would be more trustworthy long-term if there had been more research done on the short and long-term effects of kieselgur and clay on the canine digestive system first. 3/5.

Suitable for all breeds of dogs
Private label (or white label) pet foods are pre-formulated recipes that companies can order from certain factories, add their own label or packaging and retail to the public as their own brand. They are therefore available from numerous suppliers. Click here for more info.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information

74 out of 100 - Good
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin: Germany
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.
