u/d hills food (urinary tract)

Hi there, I'm pretty new to this and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the food my dog is on.
He had stones in his bladder and I was told by the vet that he has to have the hills prescription urinary tract u/d wet food, and he isn't allowed ANYTHING else other than cucumber as a treat ( which is hard), the food also quite costly, Has anyone used this before? or know of an alternative that I can buy, and also is this food any good as I've read reviews that its not and causes dogs to put weight on which mine has. - the PH levels in his last urine test were fine but im still told that he has to have this food and I cant even change to the dry version which he prefers

Nutriment do a low purine raw complete. Not aware of any kidney supportive foods of wet complete &/or other types....sorry.
