Introductions / Re: Dog food for young and not so young.

My dog is currently very happy on his lamb grain free Wainwrights. If he does start to get fed up, and I want to try some other flavours, how do I go about introducing them? Does it have to be gradual as if it's a completely different branded food do you think?

My little Schnauzer loves Weetabix. When he was a pup I used to give him a Weetabix on a Sunday with some milk. He lapped it up but then I was worried if I should/shouldn't be giving him cows milk or not??

Hi Andy

Thanks for the reply all these weeks on.

Since this started I've fed him grain free lamb and vegetables wainwrights which he's doing well on. The only treats I've fed are again, wainwrights grain free white fish or duck. I've also fed some dried fish skins.

He did bring something up the other day actually however we'd been in the car a lot that day and was at families the night before so I'm putting that down to that. He's been fine since.

I won't feed chicken again just in case to be honest. So as long as he's doing well on this I'll stick with it. He certainly enjoys it.

All the best

Yeah I'd stick with the lamb you're using definitely.... Yes I'm always on poo patrol that's for sure

I know your pain with stomach problems and the runs and how mortifying it is. I've been feeding wainwrights lamb grain free small breed for three weeks now and my dog is producing really good poo..... Every dog is different of course but as long as he's eating it I won't be changing.

I've just bought some of the wainwrights grain free bones shaped ones in duck. Great minds think alike.
He absolutely lives markies but I didn't dare look at the ingredients when he used to have them as he got so much joy from them.... He'll be happy at bed time tonight bless him

Thanks for that. I used to give him a wainwrights biccie at bedtime. Bless him he still runs to the kitchen on a night before bed and I've not given him anything.... The only thing he's had other than his food for the last few weeks is some apple when we're eating our tea which he loves

Zeus is back to normal now. I've just about weaned him into wainwrights lamb grain free small breed. Today is the last day of a tiny bit of the vet hills food.

He's been fine. Had a little food after I got back from having his hair cut and had his tea as usual.... So I think we're over it now... Thanks all for helping throughout all this!

Yes I intend on doing so. I have a theory on the whole episode. I think initially when it started he had something gastro related and was ill. When we fed a bland diet his runs got a lot worse with just chicken. Then the hills has chicken in it but a lot less.

I think it's chicken and the amount of bloat in the hills that was causing it. I didn't feed the rda of hills but it still looked like a lot and then when it swells in his stomach.... That's my take on the matter anyway. I'm just glad the sickness has stopped.

Little worried about him this morning as he's been excited for his food all week but today he's not interested.

If it was me I'd stick with Eden for a while rather than changing back. You could always monitor your dogs weight and see how it goes. I weigh myself in kg then jump on with the dog to accurately weigh him.

I've changed foods a lot and I think sometimes I've done more harm than good but that's just my opinion

Hi all, Zeus has been a lot better. I'm currently slowly weaning him off hills and onto wainwrights grain free lamb. So far so good no sick since Monday night.

This morning I've walked him, came home and he just ran upstairs and is sleeping so didn't want his food.

He's got his hair being cut at 9 so will see if he feels like anything later. When I woke up I could hear his stomach gurgling but he's not had a poo.

Fingers crossed he's not starting again with not eating etc.

No sick last night however will only consider it progress if he isn't sick tonight as it seems to be very other day he vomits.
