General discussion / Gentle dog food

Hi there. I’m thinking about incorporating Gentle into my dogs raw complete. Does anyone know how long it lasts for once opened? I only want to include a small amount each day. Thanks for any advice

Hi there. I’ve started Toby back on raw as I’ve found one without bone as this was making him constipated. I also give Toby dry as a fun thing after his meal in a treat ball and hide a few for him to find. Dottie kindly forwarded a link for information regarding mixing raw and kibble which was very interesting

General dog chat / Vaccines
« on: Aug 28, 2019, 21:47 »
Hi again. I’ve been reading a couple of posts regarding vaccinations. My cocker spaniel Toby has an under active thyroid and on permanent medication so I wasn’t keen on him being vaccinated as this apparently comprises the autoimmune system. I spoke to my vet about titre testing and to my surprise she agreed it was a good idea. This is a simple blood test. Toby was found to be immune to the core diseases to my relief and therefore didn’t need these. Thought some on this forum might be interested or probably already know about this test

Thank you. Billy No Mates apparently has neem oil in the powder for ingestion. I’ve heard that this is bad to give orally but  I’ll look at cooper and gracie website. Thanks again I know I’m probably being over protective  :)

Hi. Has anyone used a natural remedy for fleas?  The more I read about the chemicals in flea treatments the less I want to use them. My dog Toby has an under active thyroid and is on permanent medication so I am extra cautious about what treatments he has. Thanks for any input

Raw feeding / Re: Introducing raw food
« on: Aug 21, 2019, 18:50 »
Hi. Thanks for the welcome and information. I’m trying to finish the rest of Barking Heads wet food atm as have quite a lot of it so give Toby one meal of that and the other the ROR food which is boneless.  I have added some kibble but only a little for fun seek games. So far so good so am hoping the ROR is going to agree with Toby.  Thanks again

Raw feeding / Introducing raw food
« on: Aug 19, 2019, 09:22 »
Hi there

I fed my cocker spaniel raw complete a couple of years ago for quite some time but the bone content was always too high and he was permanently  constipated so had to stop.  The reason I tried it was because he always had digestive issues i.e. upset tummy including (without being too graphic) gellified poo.  Had blood tests etc but nothing conclusive and the vet prescribed mild antibiotics which worked.  I wasn't happy with Toby being permanently on these so that was the reason I converted to raw.  Unfortunately it had the opposite effect!

Since that time I have tried untold wet foods which all end up with the same digestive issues.

Sorry for the long post by the way  :).  The upshot of this is that I am now trying a boneless raw food called ROR which includes the right ratios of calcium and phospherous and also added veg and minerals.  I don't know much about this company but the ingredients look good.

My question after all this, is I've been told you can't mix kibble and raw but there are quite a lot of varying opinions.  I like to give Toby some in a treat ball and other "beyond the bowl" games after his meal but wonder if that has to stop now I'm introducing raw.  Any views would be appreciated.

If you haven't fallen asleep by now thanks for reading.

This site is brilliant.   I had never hear about carrageenan until I came across it being mentioned on here.  So thanks everyone.  I've a few questions to ask regarding raw feeding so will post on that section.  I've an 8 year cocker spaniel called Toby
