General dog chat / Insurance Update
« on: Jul 24, 2019, 10:07 »
I don't know if this will help others but please everyone, read the small print on your cover documents. My excess was £150 and then they didn't pay the first 25 per cent of each bill also. Basically they didn't even pay half of each claim. My schnauzer ended up with pancreatitis, diabetes, double pneumonia, an ear infection, and eventually we were told he had leukemia. He was eating but losing weight. We had to put him to sleep as we couldn't watch him suffer. There should have been a death payment but I was then told that they only paid that if my dog had died in an accident. Apparently they can't possibly pay for every sick dog that dies. Our other 3 dogs are with this company also but they are too old to be taken on by another company.

Is anyone with a diabetic dog using their own blood sugar monitor and testing at home?

General dog chat / Insurance!!

Hi everyone. My dog has just been diagnosed with pancreatitis and diabetes. Of course my insurance company is only paying half the cost to date so I owe about £300 plus I've already paid the excess - £150 and I am also paying the monthly cost of £32 for each of my 4 dogs now that they are 8 years old. Can anyone recommend a good pet insurer??

Hi, I'm the owner of 3 miniature schnauzers and 1 Hungarian Vizsla. One of my schnauzers has just been diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatitis. I am in shock. We have been feeding them with chicken, fish, mince steak, vegetables, pasta and rice but now this is not feasible for Bentley. He has lost some weight, he's 7.1kgs. The vet has given me Royal Canin - why do they all promote it??? I don't want to keep him on that food once he's stabilised. I would really appreciate some advice about the best dry feed for the poor wee soul.
