" Made with the revolutionary Cold Pressed Process this gentle with nature dog food is made of everything your dog needs in every stage of its life. Using only premium raw materials (note all meat and rice is thermally pre-treated in accordance with EU regulation 1069/2009) and pressing the food at 40-44 degrees for a few seconds, Gentle retains more natural key nutrients and enzymes than extruded food! Gentle breaks down much quicker in the dog’s stomach allowing them to access all of the goodness this food has to offer. Made from mainly Chicken, Rice and Duck, this product has a high quality meat content. With lower feeding guidelines than many other foods on top of being GM, chemical additive and preservative free Gentle dog food has most of the benefits of a natural diet but in a dry food form. "
Hi There, is this food suitable for a 4 year old dog with a history of pancreatitis? Tyring to find a high quality food for my dog long-term that rates well

Tried the Goat and then Fish as thought chicken was causing the scratching but neither made any difference and the Fish has rice so maybe grains?
I didn't like the large pieces and as the recommended amount for her was around 60g a day it looked pathetically little.
Did up the amount but pooing 4 times a day, one of which was around 2 or 3am wasn't great.
Plus stomach aches seemed to be more frequent although never any runny poos.
So the hunt goes on

Hi everyone, I’ve messaged Gentle, asking for confirmation of the amount of food to feed my 13yr old English Springer Spaniel, who is 24kg. I was told 180-200g per day. Per day?! Doesn’t sound enough. Any advice please.

Your dogs weight will tell you if it's enough food. Dogs should have a dipped in waist and a light covering of muscle over their ribs. This is considered the best condition for long term with less medical conditions. Perhaps they based the feeding on this. x

Can I check - is the grams per day correct? I've a 9kg dog - 108g per day seems too small when this site suggests she should be having around 580 calories a day.

Hi , this ingredient is actually a "green healing earth " , but we were told that we have to use this wording as the green heating earth is not on the official UK list used by the trading standards, although widely used in Germany , where this food is made.
I hope this helps.

I had this problem with pooch & mutt too! Don't know what that's about! My old girl has been on Gentle most of her life (she's 11 with a very sensitive stomach) and her poos are perfect and she goes twice a day 😊 It's the only dog food her stomach can cope with.

Hi is 84% not the up to date rating for this product then? Im trying to find a complete cold pressed dry food for my french bulldog thats above 80% rating as i was feeding him butchers simple and gentle meat as it was rated 89% but it has dropped to 76% i dont understand why though I had started giving it to him mixed with a cheap buiscuit just to give it some crunch and help his teeth, he loved eating the buiscuit so i want to change him to a dry complete and just add a bit of meat to it, hence why I want a higher rating for the dry! Any help would be grat please x

Just switched my girl (GSD) on to this food…. Infact, she will even eat it as a treat in training, hopefully it will save me a fortune,😁
and it’s far more balanced than her previous food (AVA), that was sending her crazy with the high carb percentage %,
They also lovely people to deal with on the phone and couldn’t be any more helpful 10/10 🤔😊

Food is rated on how it’s processed now too so extruded kibble loose nutrients in the production more so then freeze dried. Meat meal is less nutrient dense then pure meat cuts etc etc

Hi Oliver! All of our ratings are based on the nutritional benefit we expect dogs to receive from the food. You can find more info here: https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions#ratings
I'm afraid I don't know how Pet Food Expert score products but I do know that they are owned and run by Pets Corner - the company behind most of the highest rated products on the Pet Food Expert site - McAdams, R.O.R, More & Yora

It’s made in Germany. Try Ooddles or Cobbydog for a British made cold pressed kibble. I use the two interchangeably as they are almost identical.

Bentley's Taste of the Ocean is rated 93%, which IS the highest UK manufactured Kibble. As Bentley's is gently steamed at 82 degrees C, it is also closer to cold pressed than many other brands that are cooked at much higher temperatures.

The people that own the Ooddles company (Wetton family) are known to own Raffles Cockapoos and Humphries Poos which are both puppy farms. Cheshire Council took away Raffles Cockapoos breeding licence 2 years ago as they were breeding over 250 litters per year and in horrible conditions producing many puppies with health issues. The son of the family recently started Humphries Poos which has the same issues. So although the products look good, i wouldn’t want to be giving my money to a family who churn out poor puppies in horrible ways. Have a quick google of Raffles Cockapoos and the owner of Ooddles. Very sad as their foods look good

Something to watch out for is that some dogs are allergic to chicken, so maybe try a food with fish, beef, venison instead. I use Guru (cold pressed like Gentle) surf and turf (beef and fish) and mine has no problems on that, but he can’t eat chicken.

I have fed Gentle on its own and with raw meat. My Springer suffers from pancreatitis and can be very fussy but loves gentle and it's low fat so doesn't cause flare ups. My working cocker puppy is conveniently on the same, although I bought her the small bite fish for her first few months. The level of protein in the raw made her a bit hyper but feeding gentle on its own is clean, good value and nutritious. It covers all bases healthwise which is something I worried about when my Springer was on chicken and rice a lot of the time.

I feed my dog Markus Mühle (made in same cold pressing factory) & animal welfare is a concern of mine also Janice. My enquiries to MM were passed to Gentle who assured me they share these values. Better than that I can’t say, as certainly on MM food there is no such clearly stated claim. Claire, thank you for the link to the forum that is most helpful as are the articles, I feel reassured in my choice. I note MM/Gentle aren’t on the PETA approved list of ethical pet foods so I contacted PETA who said they didn’t have any information on this company nor had they been in contact with them.

I'm hoping someone can help, I'm at my wits end. I have a JRT who is very sensitive in more ways than one. I have tried, Wainwrights Grain Free turkey & Veg. Wellness Simple salmon & potato, which did help with his loose poo's, but at £13.99 for a 1.8kg bag is too expensive also P@H have stopped selling it. I have tried weaning him onto Fishmongers but this has made him very windy and loose poo's. Any advice would be welcome thank you.

There maybe other reasons why your dog has loose stools and wind. It may not be the food itself.Ensure he is not eating too much if the food ( a common mistake) Ensure he has more than one meal a day. Perhaps split his daily quoter into three or four meals a day? Slow his eating down by using something like a Green Feeder. This stops the gulping and hence possibly...the wind! Are there any factors that make him anxious. Just like us, if a dog gets stressed it will effect his digestion. Perhaps get a vet check and make sure there are no underlying health issues which maybe effecting his digestion. Hope that helps. :)

Tony Cruse, thanks for your comment, my JRT was recently very poorly, and was diagnosed with pancreatitis, he may well have had this problem when we had him. He is now been fed on a vets prescription food, (Specific, Allergy Management) Salmon. His stools are now firm, but he is now waiting to have a course of vitamin B12 injections and a further blood test. He has put on weight, but we are still having problems with his behaviour ie barking at cars also he barks at me or my husband to go out, you open the door but he just jumps up hysterically, so it is difficult to know what he wants. We have to put him in his own corner to calm him down. When he is calm we let him back in with us, but we go through it all over again. It is very frustrating, as he is a very affectionate chap. Also, we have always had JRT and never come across this problem before, also they both lived till they were 17 and 15.

Jacquelyn.... hopefully things have settled down now, but if not... have you considered raw feeding? I've never done it myself, but on researching it, I spoke to someone at Natural Instinct and asked a few general questions..she said she moved her dog onto it and it really helped with his pancreatitis...so I'm guessing it could be worth a look...good luck 😊

I feed raw but wanted a compatible food that I could easily switch to for those times when raw is not easy ie holidays. I was recommended Gentle (by Paws with a Cause in Brighton) and have not looked back. I feed my 2yr old Wire Haired Hungarian Vizsla Gentle for breakfast and raw for supper. He loves it and I am happy to have such a high quality food which he obviously loves. Bloat is never far from my mind especially with this breed and Gentle is reassuring in that it breaks down so quickly but not before they have had a good crunch! Good value too. We have a puppy also who will be being introduced to Gentle very soon. If raw ever became a problem then I would have no hesitation in feeding Gentle exclusively. Have yet to try the new fish flavour :-)

I feed Gentle and I feed raw, I totally agree with your comment, its a good quality food that can be fed alongside raw as its cold pressed and breaks down easily unlike kibble which can stay in the gut for hours making it dangerous to mix with raw.

My puppy was fussy and uninterested in food, and subsequently looked as skinny as a rake. What she did eat caused her to have the runs and wind! Looking for an alternative to Raw diet in a dry food, I came across this and haven't looked back. The first day my pup tried this she loved it and has continued to love it as much a year down the line! I feel happy knowing I'm feeding her the best I can and it shows in her shiny healthy coat and excellent weight. If I had to fault it, it would be that I needed to feed quite a bit higher than the recommended amount just to keep a covering on my dog as she grew and even once she stopped growing, she is still fed more than the recommended 1% of body weight. Although, she is a very active Springer spaniel so it could just be that the food is more suited to something a little less hyperactive :) I still rated it 5 out of 5 as I am just happy knowing my dog loves it and it's good for her. The customer service from them direct is also very good too
I have had dogs all my (long) life and currently have three Welsh Springer Spaniels. The best dog food I've come across in that time is Gentle! My dogs, including Rosie - 14 years old and rather picky, love it! The other two eat anything, but with Gentle they all thrive - nice kickable poos, great coats etc. I hope to have a litter in October (my third in 14 years, so defo not a puppy farmer lol ) I plan to wean the puppies on Gentle, and I'll give the new puppy owners a bag of Gentle each! IMHO the best dog food available in the `UK! If I wasn't a veggie, I might eat it myself!

Tried Gentle for my 14 week old puppy. Unfortunately it didn't suit him. He developed major diarrhoea and became quite lethargic. We do think now that he may have a sensitivity to chicken so it may not be the foods fault at all!I will say the customer service was wonderful when I rang to discuss it. A lady called Beate was very kind and together we discussed options. Sadly it was not to be. The pup did love the food though! So it clearly tastes great.Just wish we could have made it work.

This food is an unbeatable combination of quality and value. Formulated to mimic a natural diet, this food does not compromise quality for price. It leaves all the so called top extruded products standing! As it is cold-pressed, it has superb digestibility and this combined with the resulting low feed rate makes it the best value food in the market today, It's also perfect for any breed, regardless of age or activity level so for multi dog-owners there's no need to have your kitchen cluttered with different types of food.

Gentle is a great food and two of my cavaliers will eat it enthusiastically, maintaining solid, healthy bowel movements, not showing any signs of increased energy or hyperactivity and displaying healthy, silky coats.Unfortunately, my other cavalier cannot tolerate Gentle at all. Whilst I'm not sure what it is in the food that she reacted so badly to (she's a sensitive dog in general but this was the worst food reaction we've had) so can't be too specific on the ingredient at fault, whenever she's sampled Gentle she has started reverse sneezing and vomiting. This was especially unpleasant when we settled down for bed and, feeling lousy and wanting some comfort, I'm sure, she came to cuddle on my pillow, and threw up all over me and my side of the bed! We've now switched to Orijen, which all the dogs enjoy just as much and which has not resulted in midnight Exorcist style bed coatings.I'd still recommend Gentle for dogs without allergies/digestive upsets, but I'd recommend trying to get a sample before trialing it on a gut-sensitive dog.

Suitable for all breeds of dogs
Private label (or white label) pet foods are pre-formulated recipes that companies can order from certain factories, add their own label or packaging and retail to the public as their own brand. They are therefore available from numerous suppliers. Click here for more info.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information

84 out of 100 - Excellent
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin: Germany
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

Hi There, is this food suitable for a 4 year old dog with a history of pancreatitis? Tyring to find a high quality food for my dog long-term that rates well
Kat Harman• 3 months ago
Tried the Goat and then Fish as thought chicken was causing the scratching but neither made any difference and the Fish has rice so maybe grains?
I didn't like the large pieces and as the recommended amount for her was around 60g a day it looked pathetically little.
Did up the amount but pooing 4 times a day, one of which was around 2 or 3am wasn't great.
Plus stomach aches seemed to be more frequent although never any runny poos.
So the hunt goes on

Why such a high rating ? Cold pressed which is great but extremely high in carbs ( really bad ) also

Hi everyone, I’ve messaged Gentle, asking for confirmation of the amount of food to feed my 13yr old English Springer Spaniel, who is 24kg. I was told 180-200g per day. Per day?! Doesn’t sound enough. Any advice please.
Janis Jöro Ledger Tracy Serajian• 5 months ago
Sounds about right for a snoozing senior, if you have a very active senior they may need more though.

We have 2 x 2 year old Cockers, one has (10kg dog) 180g per day, the other (10.5kg dog) 200g per day
Elle Bee Tracy Serajian• 3 months ago
Your dogs weight will tell you if it's enough food. Dogs should have a dipped in waist and a light covering of muscle over their ribs. This is considered the best condition for long term with less medical conditions. Perhaps they based the feeding on this. x

Hi , this ingredient is actually a "green healing earth " , but we were told that we have to use this wording as the green heating earth is not on the official UK list used by the trading standards, although widely used in Germany , where this food is made.
I hope this helps.

Hi, could anyone tell me how there dog is on this food regarding there poos please? My dog won’t go in the garden so we have to walk him each time he needs to go! He was on pooch and mutt calm but that food made him need to go 4/5 times per day!

Where is this made? I'm changing my dogs' kibble, and if poss would like a brand that is made in the UK to keep carbon footprint as low as poss.
Lgc85 Susie James• 11 months ago
It’s made in Germany. Try Ooddles or Cobbydog for a British made cold pressed kibble. I use the two interchangeably as they are almost identical.
Alana K Lgc85• 11 months ago
Also, Wilson's cold pressed, I've used before and made in Scotland, UK
Lgc85 Alana K• 11 months ago
Wilson’s is rated 82% whereas Ooddles is 91%, which is the highest rated British made kibble. Only the “gentle dog food” cold pressed beats it (93%) but that’s made in Germany
Bentleys Lgc85• 11 months ago
Bentley's Taste of the Ocean is rated 93%, which IS the highest UK manufactured Kibble. As Bentley's is gently steamed at 82 degrees C, it is also closer to cold pressed than many other brands that are cooked at much higher temperatures.
Alana K Lgc85• 11 months ago

Is Gentle food suitable for cockerpoos? Mine might have allergies (ear infections and itching) so I'm wanting to find a food suitable
Esther Harvey abby simmonds• 3 years ago
Something to watch out for is that some dogs are allergic to chicken, so maybe try a food with fish, beef, venison instead. I use Guru (cold pressed like Gentle) surf and turf (beef and fish) and mine has no problems on that, but he can’t eat chicken.
Camilla abby simmonds• 2 years ago

I have found the same.. my dog has been on gentle approx 7 or 8 months and has started chewing her paws excessively.. She loves this food but I’m switching to the fish to see if it makes a difference.
FoxDixon Camilla • 2 years ago
My dog is chewing his feet after meals too! Think it could be the chicken. Did the fish make difference for your dog?
Camilla FoxDixon• 2 years ago
Yes I switched to the fish and she rarely chews her paws anymore. I also bought some special wipes for her paws though so it’s hard to know if it was the food or not!

Tessa Bowater• 4 years ago
My pup is on the chicken variety of Gentle but i think she's developed sensitivity/allergy to chicken. I'd love to see an All About Dog Food review on Gentles other 2 varieties - fish, goat.
Just Sayin• 5 years ago
I am using the chicken variety of this for an 14.5 year old with pancreatitis and it has settled down and is under control now. Very good food which is easy on the digestion for elderly dogs.
Maia Hall• 5 years ago
I have fed Gentle on its own and with raw meat. My Springer suffers from pancreatitis and can be very fussy but loves gentle and it's low fat so doesn't cause flare ups. My working cocker puppy is conveniently on the same, although I bought her the small bite fish for her first few months. The level of protein in the raw made her a bit hyper but feeding gentle on its own is clean, good value and nutritious. It covers all bases healthwise which is something I worried about when my Springer was on chicken and rice a lot of the time.
Chris• 5 years ago
I feed my dog Markus Mühle (made in same cold pressing factory) & animal welfare is a concern of mine also Janice. My enquiries to MM were passed to Gentle who assured me they share these values. Better than that I can’t say, as certainly on MM food there is no such clearly stated claim. Claire, thank you for the link to the forum that is most helpful as are the articles, I feel reassured in my choice. I note MM/Gentle aren’t on the PETA approved list of ethical pet foods so I contacted PETA who said they didn’t have any information on this company nor had they been in contact with them.
Mark felstead Chris• 4 years ago
I have fed my parson russell Gentle, Guru and Marchus muhle and feel they are equally as good but MM is some 18 pounds cheaper a bag so that is my regular buy with the other two now and then for a change.

Tony Cruse Jacquelyn Freeman• 7 years ago
There maybe other reasons why your dog has loose stools and wind. It may not be the food itself.Ensure he is not eating too much if the food ( a common mistake)
Ensure he has more than one meal a day.
Jacquelyn Freeman Tony Cruse• 7 years ago
Pat Price Jacquelyn Freeman• 6 years ago
These are behaviour problems and unlikely to be caused by the current food he is on. Your best bet is to see a behaviourist from either COAPE or APBC.
Tracey Webb Jacquelyn Freeman• 6 years ago
Jacquelyn.... hopefully things have settled down now, but if not... have you considered raw feeding? I've never done it myself, but on researching it, I spoke to someone at Natural Instinct and asked a few general questions..she said she moved her dog onto it and it really helped with his pancreatitis...so I'm guessing it could be worth a look...good luck 😊
Raclette• 7 years ago
Lesley Robinson Raclette• 7 years ago
I feed Gentle and I feed raw, I totally agree with your comment, its a good quality food that can be fed alongside raw as its cold pressed and breaks down easily unlike kibble which can stay in the gut for hours making it dangerous to mix with raw.
Jo Amsel• 7 years ago
Excellent food, no problems at all with digestion. We use this on boarders with sensitive tums. I just wish that they made this for very small dogs too as some find the large size difficult and although they like it, we oftrn have to break it into smaller pieces.

I believe a small size is about to be (or has been) launched.
