I saw that there was a new recipie when it came out as it was clearly shown on the bags of food. It was advised to slowly transition onto the new food as though they are a pup or a completely new food. My English Springer does so well on the salmon and white fish kibble and she has a real sensitive tummy. So it's not all bad as some of the comments below.

Be warned - I have previously fed Autarky grain free White Fish for some time to our 10 working gundogs with no problem. Suddenly with a new batch their condition has gone down rapidly, and they are having enormous poos. On complaining to the manufacturer, they tell me they have changed the recipe and the factory has changed hands - they have gone to different suppliers, and added certain ingredients. No warning except for a small new logo on the bag. My dogs are in a state - waking up at night wanting to go out, and poo-ing for England! Autarky customer service have refused to pick up and refund my 10 surplus bags that I definitely will never feed. They suggest that I drive 40 mins each way to my supplier to get compensation .
They have failed in their duty of comprehensively informing customers of a sudden change.
I am warning everyone of the problems, and to beware of extremely poor customer service.

Same here with our border collie. She loves her new food, Arden grange ocean white fish and potato. Transition was within a couple of days with no ill effects. I contacted United pet foods to complain and got this response
Absolutely we could have done things better, and if we had the opportunity to do it again it would be different, but human beings make mistakes I’m afraid.
The problem occurred around the time of the company changeover, with the out-going purchasing manager mistakenly placing an order for the new recipe bags (when the existing recipe was the one that should have been ordered). By the time this was noticed it was too late to amend and the new business (United) had to go ahead and produce new recipe and bag. In normal circumstances we would have clearly communicated this to our retail and customer base, but these were not normal circumstances with people leaving the existing business (being made redundant) and the whole operation moving to South Wales. Therefore mistakes were made and lessons learnt.

Exactly the same with my collie - the new "improved" recipe has upset her stomach, she's so sensitive to grain this was perfect - now I have had to stop feeding her it. My boy is fine but it has made his poo a little softer, so he's eating the rest up for me just to get rid of it!

We moved our collie to Arden Grange adult sensitive white fish after the Autarky debacle. She loves it just like she did autarky and transitioned with having to mix the two for a period. She’s loving it and thriving on it. Hope this helps others

My two dogs have refused to eat the new bag of Autarky I received two weeks ago, just spat it out. From reading other comments, the recipe has changed. I’m fuming, I’ve 12 kg of food to throw out now and my collie isn’t touching any other food, he’s really suspicious of even wet food. What’s going on?

My dog has been eating Autarky grain free fish and potatoe since it was launched. It was perfect - he loved it and happily ate it! However - major problem now because he will not eat the supposed new and improved receipe and the original really helped with his skin condition. We now have a 12kg bag that he will not touch and a dilema as to what to feed him going forward. Autarky what are you doing? You should have warned your customers before changing the receipe, although it looks like you wont have any customers if you dont go back to the original receipe!

My dog was happy on this until last month. It appears the recipe has been "improved" and my dog can no longer tolerate it. We were unaware as nothing advertises this change and the sites selling are still showing the original packaging and composition. He just got really badly loose the day after I started a new bag. Wasn't sure what it was at first but when I compared the compositions on the bags I could see some ingredients have been changed. I have now had to change to a different food all together (it's a shame as he was doing well on it)

Hi. I opened a new 12kg bag of this food 2 days ago and instantly my Pointer refused to eat it. We've been using this food for a long time as it's great for her 'red meat' protein allergy and normally she cant get enough of it, but something has changed with this new bag that's putting her off. Not just slow eating, point blank refuses to eat any.
It took us ages to find a food that agrees with her, back to square one now.

The recipe and shape of the kibble has changed. One of mine has to have fish and potato, no meat protein, no rice, only some whole pasta. They do not like the new food, in fact won't eat it unless 10% compared to amount of another food added. Having to cook for the allergic one and need a balanced diet, preferably grain free kibble.

This food is suitable for the following breed sizes:
Private label (or white label) pet foods are pre-formulated recipes that companies can order from certain factories, add their own label or packaging and retail to the public as their own brand. They are therefore available from numerous suppliers. Click here for more info.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.
In general, unless your dog has health issues, you probably won't have to worry about these figures. Click here for more information
The price per day of feeding this food based on feeding the manufacturer's recommended daily amount from 12kg bags bought at their rrp to a dog of:

Note: All suggested feeding amounts and costs are only approximate and may vary considerably from dog to dog. Be sure to contact the manufacturer if in any doubt.
64 out of 100 - Good
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin: United Kingdom
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.
