I am currently feeding my 6 month old cocker spaniel Ooddles meat feast however he is itching and biting his skin quite a bit. Gentle seems to be the highest recommended with the best reviews. Does anyone think it’s worth switching and also switching to the gentle fish as I read some dogs can have issues with chicken and the grains chicken are fed even though Ooddles is grain free?

We were recommended Gentle Dog by our trainer- Oakley is a large 18month old German Shepherd , has 666g a day and looks fit and well. He loves it and we are so pleased with .

I have an 8 yr old working cocker who has been fed on Gentle Original all his life. He is naturally big for a pure cocker, at 17kg but then so are all of his relations. He has always had the recommended amount for his weight and age. Currently this is 170gm per day, 50% morning and 50% evening. Agree with other posters that in the bowl this doesn’t look a lot, but his weight is constant on it. ‘ In fact at once stage our Vet was so impressed with his general condition that she felt obliged to enquire what he was being fed on! I was intrigued by another poster who confessed to soaking it in warm water for 20 minutes and reckoned it slowed down her dog’s eating. I might try this, as our cocker does eat fast and we use one of those special feed bowls to slow him down. Also notice that he always wants to drink a lot of water after his meal.

I just want to reassure everyone that you are feeding the correct amount - I was shocked that my 30kg dog only needed a couple handfuls of cold pressed per day but he’s been on it for a while now and is never hungry and in great shape. We add a little warm (not hot!) water and leave to soak for 20 mins - you’d be surprised how much it bulks out (like rice) and it forces him to eat slower too

Hi There, is this food suitable for a 4 year old dog with a history of pancreatitis? Tyring to find a high quality food for my dog long-term that rates well

Rowena Lang Mclougb6 3 months ago
My springer had a bad bout of pancreatitis, so we had to switch to Gentle and I would 100% recommend! No more greasy poos or vomiting after meals. He’s 5 years old now and has been on gentle for 2 years and doing very well :)

Tried the Goat and then Fish as thought chicken was causing the scratching but neither made any difference and the Fish has rice so maybe grains? I didn't like the large pieces and as the recommended amount for her was around 60g a day it looked pathetically little. Did up the amount but pooing 4 times a day, one of which was around 2 or 3am wasn't great. Plus stomach aches seemed to be more frequent although never any runny poos. So the hunt goes on

Why such a high rating ? Cold pressed which is great but extremely high in carbs ( really bad ) also dried ground chicken meat

Hi everyone, I’ve messaged Gentle, asking for confirmation of the amount of food to feed my 13yr old English Springer Spaniel, who is 24kg. I was told 180-200g per day. Per day?! Doesn’t sound enough. Any advice please.

Sounds about right for a snoozing senior, if you have a very active senior they may need more though.

Your dogs weight will tell you if it's enough food. Dogs should have a dipped in waist and a light covering of muscle over their ribs. This is considered the best condition for long term with less medical conditions. Perhaps they based the feeding on this. x

Can I check - is the grams per day correct? I've a 9kg dog - 108g per day seems too small when this site suggests she should be having around 580 calories a day.

Hi , this ingredient is actually a "green healing earth " , but we were told that we have to use this wording as the green heating earth is not on the official UK list used by the trading standards, although widely used in Germany , where this food is made. I hope this helps.

Hi, could anyone tell me how there dog is on this food regarding there poos please? My dog won’t go in the garden so we have to walk him each time he needs to go! He was on pooch and mutt calm but that food made him need to go 4/5 times per day!

I had this problem with pooch & mutt too! Don't know what that's about! My old girl has been on Gentle most of her life (she's 11 with a very sensitive stomach) and her poos are perfect and she goes twice a day 😊 It's the only dog food her stomach can cope with.

Hi is 84% not the up to date rating for this product then? Im trying to find a complete cold pressed dry food for my french bulldog thats above 80% rating as i was feeding him butchers simple and gentle meat as it was rated 89% but it has dropped to 76% i dont understand why though I had started giving it to him mixed with a cheap buiscuit just to give it some crunch and help his teeth, he loved eating the buiscuit so i want to change him to a dry complete and just add a bit of meat to it, hence why I want a higher rating for the dry! Any help would be grat please x

My dogs have been fed this for 13 years My oldest dog is 15. My dogs are slim and I never hear or smell them farting. They have dry solid poops. I would never change this food I have been 100% satisfied.

Just switched my girl (GSD) on to this food…. Infact, she will even eat it as a treat in training, hopefully it will save me a fortune,😁 and it’s far more balanced than her previous food (AVA), that was sending her crazy with the high carb percentage %, They also lovely people to deal with on the phone and couldn’t be any more helpful 10/10 🤔😊

They released a video and notes explaining it. Food is rated on how it’s processed now too so extruded kibble loose nutrients in the production more so then freeze dried. Meat meal is less nutrient dense then pure meat cuts etc etc

I just did an Instant Review on the Goat, as that is what I feed my girls. I was surprised to find it only came out at 70% and the Fish was only slightly better at 79%, Looks like I'll be swapping foods.

Hi Oliver! All of our ratings are based on the nutritional benefit we expect dogs to receive from the food. You can find more info here: https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions#ratings I'm afraid I don't know how Pet Food Expert score products but I do know that they are owned and run by Pets Corner - the company behind most of the highest rated products on the Pet Food Expert site - McAdams, R.O.R, More & Yora

It’s made in Germany. Try Ooddles or Cobbydog for a British made cold pressed kibble. I use the two interchangeably as they are almost identical.

Also, Wilson's cold pressed, I've used before and made in Scotland, UK

Wilson’s is rated 82% whereas Ooddles is 91%, which is the highest rated British made kibble. Only the “gentle dog food” cold pressed beats it (93%) but that’s made in Germany

Bentleys Lgc85 one year ago
Bentley's Taste of the Ocean is rated 93%, which IS the highest UK manufactured Kibble. As Bentley's is gently steamed at 82 degrees C, it is also closer to cold pressed than many other brands that are cooked at much higher temperatures.

The people that own the Ooddles company (Wetton family) are known to own Raffles Cockapoos and Humphries Poos which are both puppy farms. Cheshire Council took away Raffles Cockapoos breeding licence 2 years ago as they were breeding over 250 litters per year and in horrible conditions producing many puppies with health issues. The son of the family recently started Humphries Poos which has the same issues. So although the products look good, i wouldn’t want to be giving my money to a family who churn out poor puppies in horrible ways. Have a quick google of Raffles Cockapoos and the owner of Ooddles. Very sad as their foods look good

I feed my dog Markus Mühle (made in same cold pressing factory) & animal welfare is a concern of mine also Janice. My enquiries to MM were passed to Gentle who assured me they share these values. Better than that I can’t say, as certainly on MM food there is no such clearly stated claim. Claire, thank you for the link to the forum that is most helpful as are the articles, I feel reassured in my choice. I note MM/Gentle aren’t on the PETA approved list of ethical pet foods so I contacted PETA who said they didn’t have any information on this company nor had they been in contact with them.

I have had dogs all my (long) life and currently have three Welsh Springer Spaniels. The best dog food I've come across in that time is Gentle! My dogs, including Rosie - 14 years old and rather picky, love it! The other two eat anything, but with Gentle they all thrive - nice kickable poos, great coats etc. I hope to have a litter in October (my third in 14 years, so defo not a puppy farmer lol ) I plan to wean the puppies on Gentle, and I'll give the new puppy owners a bag of Gentle each! IMHO the best dog food available in the `UK! If I wasn't a veggie, I might eat it myself!

I switched from Eden to Gentle in December and have not looked back. On Eden my lab puppy suffered from frequent loose stools. He is now on bag 4 of Gentle and he still drools when waiting for it. I would recommend it for anyone who is having problems with a 80/20 food.
