It's a shame that Amala have increased their prices. This page shows the RRP for a 15kg bag at £45.99. The only 15kg bag available on their website is for a working dog, at £49.99. The 12kg bag for pet dogs is £45.99. I was hoping to switch from the current brand I'm using (Simpsons), which sells at £36.99 per 12kg bag, as Amala has a slightly higher rating, but will now not be able to afford to.

My Cocker Spaniel was fed initially on Royal Canin. We found it expensive and upon the recommendation of the pet shop switched to AVA. This was well received initially, however since switching she has had to have her anal glands emptied 4 times, every 2 weeks. She also doesn't seem to enjoy as much and breakfast will sit for a few hours before being finished. The vet has suggested that more fibre is needed so we have been topping her diet up with pro fibre, freshf broccoli. The other suggestion from the vet was a raw diet.
Any advice?

Hi, look for a NEW food, when a dog isnt really interested in their food it probably isnt agreeing with them or something is wrong with the dog food..., What vet diet was your dog eating?? You know fish pet foods are the Highest in toxins & contaminates...I do NOT feed any fish dog foods also fish dog foods can cause acid reflux from the high omega oil content.. Please look for a Chicken or Turkey limited ingredient food that's around the same fat% protein % & fiber % as her vet diet was....or look at Freeze Dried raw formula's.. but again what vet diet was she eating??

Jacqueline McShane Susan 5 years ago

Thank you Susan. She's only had Royal Canin which she was on with the breeder and AVA which we switched to. I would like her to become a Therapet and this would be impossible if she were on a raw diet - the organisation doesn't allow it.

Look for another dry limited ingredient food that has no fish, try something like Turkey & Rice & see how she goes...

Hi, we are getting a puppy soon and want to change his food as the one he is on at at the moment is not great. Would this food be suitable for a 2 month old cross springer/labrador to be weaned on to? He won't be a working dog. Thanks.

Hi Amala Pet Food, would your food be suitable for giant breed's (st Bernard)? if not would any body be able to give me any advice on a complete dry that would fit the bill.
Thanks in advance

Amala Pet Foods Jason 6 years ago

Hello Jason, thank you for your enquiry, Amala is great for large breeds due to the high amount of oils from the fish for growing bones, joints etc. Please message us at www.amalapetfoods.co.uk or contact us via our Facebook page and we would be more than happy to send you a free sample to try, thank you 😃

After trying several brands of premium foods for my dogs they have now settled very nicely on Amala's grain free fish and chicken recipe. Their coats are beautifully glossy and their stools are firm and easy to clean up. Amala also leave my dogs very satisfied as they no longer scavenge around for any scraps. I would highly recommend Amala to those who wish to give their dogs the best high fresh meat content without feeding a high protein content. Overall I'm very impressed and therefore will not be changing to any other brand 👍

Just been looking at your food for my two dogs a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross not sure what with but I think she will be large as she's 17 weeks and weighs in at 10kg already, and a Jack Russell cross Cain Terrier at the age of 20 weeks. I've seen the biggest bag of food you do is 15kg but it's for 'working dogs' but my dogs are not working dogs, will they still be able to eat it? I've seen your feeding guide on your website so should I just follow the 'not working dog' amounts for the working dog food?

Hi, if you have a large breed puppy you should be feeding a large breed puppy formula, not a working dog formula, it might be too high in protein & phosphorus, stay under 100% for Phosphorus & under 30% in protein, you also need a kibble with calcium in it for a growing large breed puppy, their bones will grow too quick, as they age can suffer from bad joint problems........ Maybe look for another brand that makes an all stages kibble or a Large breed puppy formula & ask is it OK to feed the smaller breed pup as well, email the kibble company ask what is the Phosphorus % is if its not written on bag or their web page......

Sarah Louise Foreman Susan 7 years ago

Have you even looked into the brand it is an all life stage food and I wrote in my question that I don't know what my staffie is crossed with and I also said 'I think' she maybe a large breed. The protein in the dog food I'm looking at is 32.1 and the phosphorus is 1.38% the calcium in it is 1.52%. I also know the problems that a large breed can have. I've done my research and the question I had was to the company themselves

Whatever, fed your poor dog a high protein high phosphorus food & stay on the same food its whole life & we'll see how long it lives....
I've noticed in the UK most of the Staffys only live to around 8-10yrs old..most are dying from cancer..So what are you all doing wrong in the UK???probably all feeding kibble, your dog should be eating a balanced raw diet not a crappy kibble, kibble is for lazy dog owners...

Demme Nixon Susan 7 years ago

Well how big headed are you Susan! For your information I have had staffies all my life all of which have lived over 10 years old, 2 died at the age of 16 (of old age may I add - not cancer) and my current staffies are 6 and 11 so where you seem to be getting your information from needs to be rechecked I think, so before you start posting useless information get your facts right and think do I need to do this? errm no I don't think you do its not wanted nor is it appreciated!!!!Kibble is for lazy dog owners? I'm sure as a nation of dog lovers every kibble feeder would love to hear your opinion. maybe all of us are busy working and don't have the time to prepare a raw balanced feed, obviously you have the time to sit around and post useless pieces of unwanted information! Why don't you find another company and harass their customers/reviewers?Oh and as a last point if your not a nutritionist or someone who has a long history of working in this trade or degrees in animal feeding and nutrition then you have no rights to 'tell' other people what they should and shouldn't be doing with their dogs feeding neither should you be telling them what food to feed and how long it can be kept open for!!! Please feel free to reply to me and i'll be sure to set you straight again. If you want to advise someone atleast learn how to speak to them and not at them and learn the facts first!!Oh and just for the record the hundreds of brands that are out there producing kibble diets compared to those that are raw, what does this tell you that dog owners would prefer to do?

My 2yr-old staffie cross loves Amala dog food very much. I used to feed her Eden, which was rather too rich for her that she often had stomach problems. Then I changed to Pero, SBT breed specific one. But she did't like it. So I had to look for another, knowing that she's got a sensitive stomach and skin, also quite fussy in taste. Amala was the one! I usually pour some water over the food to make it soggy, sometimes warm water which gets her very excited with extra strong enhanced smell. I'm ordering my third bag (12kg) soon. Ever since she's switched to Amala, her poo is in good shape! ;)...(Not once had a runny problem!) Also her skin is great, no flaking no dandruffs. Above all, she enjoys her meals every single time! I highly recommend this brand. The only downside is its shipping cost. It's free on over 30kg order. I buy 12kg-bag, which means I have to order 3 bags to get free delivery... I wouldn't buy 3 in one go due to the freshness being lost while storing, but 2 if that'll make shipping free...

Hi just be careful buying big 12kilo bags, as soon as you open the kibble bag you have around 2 weeks to eat, the oxygen gets to the kibble & it starts to oxidizes, here's link it's a good read,
6kilo bag is as big as will go, I open the bag & then I get air tight container that holds about 2kgs of kibble that I use daily, then I seal the big kibble bag & get as much air out as I can then sticky tape bag & then put in plastic shopping bags then put in one of those big air tight containers in a very cool room, a lot of people store their kibble in a hot shed or laundry that's NO good....

Hello, thank you for your very good feedback on our Amala recipe, we are very pleased yourself and your dog approves of the recipe! Please message us at amalapetfoods@outlook.com and we will see if free shipping would be possible for you when purchasing 2 x 12kg bags. In regards to your question of food keeping fresh once opened, we have a guarnateeed 18 month sell by date on all products and we can safely say as a company that dry kibble with a high fresh meat content does not lose its freshness this quickly, our advice to you would be to once opened store in a cool dry place or preferably in an air tight container just to make sure freshness is 100% sustained. We look forward to hearing from you soon, with kindest regards, The Amala Team.

Can I have some sample for my puppy? I have a 9-10 weeks old Bichon Frise puppy.

Hi, you have to find the Amala's site & send them an email asking if they have samples..... Normally companies have a money back guarantee, so if your dog does not eat their kibble after introducing it over 7 days then they will refund your money, so keep your docket & try & find Amala in a Pet Shops so it's easier to get a refund back or they ask would you like to try another kibble..Have a look at 'Canidae" Pure Foundations or the "Canidae" Life Stages puppy formulas..

Hi, Would this food be suitable for a springer spaniel puppy? we don't have him yet, just looking at different foods before he arrives.

Amala Pet Foods Amy 7 years ago

Hello Amy, Yes Amala would be perfectly suitable for a springer spaniel puppy, from 8 weeks of age up until 7 years of age, the recipe would be suitable as it contains the appropriate levels of phosphorous and calcium of which a puppy needs to have in its diet. We can also send you a free sample if you email your delivery details to us at www.amalapetfoods@outlook.com, we hope this helps you? With kindest regards, The Amala Team.

We are getting an 18 month old deerhound lurcher in a couple of weeks and have been searching various sites looking for a quality yet affordable food for her. Amala seems to tick all the right boxes. She's currently on Wagg and a wet pouch but I'd rather put her on a single decent dry food. As Amala is such a high meat content is the kibble hard? Sighthounds can have problems with their teeth and I'd prefer a hard kibble to keep their teeth in good condition.

Hello Craig, thank you for your message, Amala is a fantastic dry recipe! And to answer your question, the kibble is hard but also as a benefit too, not that big for the dog to crunch, we hope this helps you? If you like, we can always send you a free sample, with kindest regards, The Amala Team.

I seen a link on "Rodney Habib" (Pet Nutritionist Blogger) Face Book page after opening a kibble you have 2 weeks.. You keep the kibble in its original bag then you put in a air tight container to keep fresher longer & take out about 1 weeks worth put in an air tight container to feed daily.. this way ur not letting air into the whole kibble bag when you open & close daily twice a day... I buy small bags that take 2-3 weeks to eat, Kibble will go rancid as soon as air gets to it especially if it has any fish, fish oil salmon oil etc some people freeze their kibble when they buy large bags...

I had seen something similar. 6 weeks seems to be the recommended limit, I'll just have to judge how much food to buy at once.

I have completed a vast amount of my own research into dog foods, studying such aspects as bad ingredients, protein levels, fat quality, meat sources and vitamins etc. My dogs were on Orijen which is fantastic...however they seemed a little off on it and had itchy feet and loose motions ( even on correct quantity ). During my research Amala came up as a food rated as 4.7 stars,. I liked the ingredients and the quality of the ingredients to. It's not full of rubbish fillers. Also, the protein level is lower than Orijen. The real test is my three dogs ( collie, cocker spaniel and Silky Terrier ). I always soak their food so as not to leave their bodies dehydrated, this food made a lovely gravy when soaked for only five minutes. All three dogs ate their food with great eagerness then checked each other's for leftovers...of which there was none. Time will tell if the itchy feet issue resolves, but so far so good. My only complaint is the see through bags the food come in, leaves it exposed to light and cheapens the look of the food.

Hello Julie, thank you for your lovely review of Amala! We're so pleased your dogs are enjoying it and that you like the ingredients used! In regards to the bags, the food would have to increase a considerable amount in price if we were to re-organise packaging, but this is something we are definitely looking into for the near future, thank you again for your review, it is much appreciated! :)

don't change it for a price increase its just fine as it is has the information needed no fancy pants pics n quotes quality ingredient don't need a fancy bag to show off lol food speaks for itselfif anything maybe look into making amala branded storage tubs?? x

I don't think the type of package the food comes in is a priority the ingredients are and tbh why would u want a fancy poncey bag any ways it's all about the quality of food which amala is and I wud rather a see through bag than a a price increase for a fancy packet that serves not purpose other then to look nice it's fine as it is states on it wot information is needed n that's that
also who leave the food out in the sun light?? stupid thing to do with any food in any packet
my baby loves amala n doing well on it thanks amala xx

Thank you very much Laura! That's a fabulous idea about the storage tubs, we will definitely look into having these! We very much agree with the fact that the ingredients are all that matters within the food. If we were to use fancy packing then this could double the price of our product which we wouldn't be prepared to put across to our loyal customers such as yourself!
We are so glad your dog is enjoying the Amala recipe! Thank you again for your kind words!

I currently feed my 2 dogs on Amala, I can't describe how well there coats shine on this recipe! They both have sensitive stomachs and have always struggled to find a high quality food that suits them, but Amala really does work a treat for them! Because of the high fresh meat content, they go wild for it, which is fantastic as I do not have to mix in any wet cans/trays to appetites them to eat it, thank you so much for creating such a fabulous recipe, I will certainly never feed anything else from now on, 5 star rating all round!
