Mixing bowl composition
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
For more information on any ingredient, please take a look at our Dog Food Ingredient Glossary
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.

68.00 out of 100 - Good
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin:Netherlands
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
The most common categories of technological additives include preservatives and antioxidants, gelling agents and thickeners and probiotics.
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

Great food & service. Will be using againHtgClaes@gmail.com •one month ago
Absolute crap. Dogs were very jittery, constantly thirsty and had to defecate about 5 times as much. Never again.Iceburg •7 months ago
Really wanted to like this food after the high recommendations from MK9Plus but it just wasn’t right for my 2 English Bull Terriers. We switched from raw to this and loved the convenience of cold pressed, we tried for over 6 months. Our puppy quite quickly started to eat her own poo, this progressively got worse and she started to eat other dogs poo. Both dogs lost weight on this food and had to feed well over the guidelines to get them to maintain weight but the consequence of that was they would poo 4 or more times a day. My older dog got dry flaky skin. Both of them would drink excessively throughout the day, even if I hydrated the food before feeding it to them. All in all it wasn’t right for them.E Marshall Iceburg •6 months ago
This was good to read. I too was going to switch my EBT from raw to this. I don’t really have any problems so I think I’ll stay where I am! Thanks for leaving your comments!Oldfogey1 •one year ago
We were looking for a new food for our 7 year old border terrier, he was fed Naturo wet food but had started to have sloppy poos. We read all about cold pressed being a good food and decided to try Tribal after discussing with them all about our dogs dodgy tum. We changed from old to new food very slowly over a good couple of weeks. Our dog began vomiting and had reflux, his skin was flaky, dull coat, looked thin. He was drinking 3 bowls of water a day and started messing in the house - he began to look quite unwell. We took him off and started him on Pooch & Mutt health and digestion on a recommendation from this site. We are 3 weeks in and he is thriving and loves the kibble. No more sloppy poos either. We had read so much about cold pressed food, don't know if it is just this brand that is unsuitable for him but not willing to take the chance on purchasing another brand, will keep him on the pooch & mutt.leejsy •one year ago
Looks like this was updated in Oct23, and has gone from 71% to 68% and lost its high meat content rating in the process. Although the instant review generator still gives it 30.5% meat content still with a 68% rating.Popsicle •one year ago
Hi - why is the carb level so high please? The ingredients don’t appear to indicate such a high level. I’m looking for a cold pressed to use alongside raw and this level of carb would probably mean non stop popping!? ThanksMozz1975 •one year ago
This is the worst company to try and obtain nutritional information from. I spent weeks trying to discover the amount of copper in their sausage food, only to be fobbed off at every turn...hiding something I wonder ??Marcos Wenzel •2 years ago
I'm considering Canagan and Tribal as a new diet to my Yorkshire. I just would like to understand more why the carbohydrate level is so high. Do I need to worry?
