Mixing bowl composition
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
For more information on any ingredient, please take a look at our Dog Food Ingredient Glossary
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.

64.00 out of 100 - Good
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin:United Kingdom
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
The most common categories of technological additives include preservatives and antioxidants, gelling agents and thickeners and probiotics.
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

This is a very good budget friendly basic food to use for an elimination diet. Simple ingredients and no nasties. I had trouble with one of my dogs and her sensitive stomach so she was fed Just 6 for a few months until we got her back to normal again and could then start incorporating wet and treats back into her diet. I do suggest if you wish to use this food indefinitely for your dog then you use it as a mixer alongside wet/cooked/raw as i feel it can be a bit TOO basic to meet the needs of some dogs.Sm “sram06†cR06 •10 months ago
I have real concerns by this food, I’ve been feeding this to my two JRT. I noticed a strange and concerning behavior for both my dogs. My 10 year old started eating my other dog faeces regularly/daily and if he was off the lead on a walk he would eat other dogs faeces too. This is something he’s never done before, I try my best to prevent him doing this but it’s like a strong urge. I have been looking at other food options but I was still searching. Then this week I’ve become more concerned because I found my older dog eating his own faeces 3x and again he has never done this before. I spoke to two vets, they don’t feel they are stressed or bored, up to date with wormer and myself & my vet feel it must be diet related. I have observed them pacing and appearing hungry despite feeding recommended amount so the vet suggested increasing amount but this has made no difference. I have some doubts and concerns about this.Pink91 Sm “sram06†cR06 •8 months ago
This often can be down to your dog lacking certain nutrients in their diet. Do you use any wet food along side this? Maybe that would help as your dog would be getting extra nutrients from the wet food which the dry might be lacking? I had the same issue with one of my dogs a fews years ago, we put her on this food for a while to do an elimination diet as she was struggling with stomach sensitivities. This food 100% helped her stomach to settle but we did notice she would be eating our others dogs poop (he was fed something different at the time). Once we got her back onto her regular food and started incorporating wet food as toppers and giving natural treats and chews again the poop eating stopped. She hasn't done it since :)Sarah x •one year ago
Tried several foods all up in the 70s and 80s ratings (and top end of pricing), he stopped heating all after one bag. Romanian rescue loves the lamb one (can't eat chicken) and can even use at class for him. Tummy and poops settled, nice price too!Holly X •one year ago
Recently bought this for one of my Huskies as she was refusing Carnilove. I tried this and Forthglade cold compress. I’ve no idea which one is the culprit, Just6 or Forthglade but one of them has caused her to lose the plot. She has chewed everything. I’ve stopped them both and plan to try some different flavours of Carnilove.Sarah Jayne Courtney •2 years ago
