Mixing bowl composition
This is the ingredients list as printed on the packaging or manufacturer's website.
Think of the 'mixing bowl' composition like a recipe - all the ingredients you would need to put in a 'mixing bowl' in order to make the food.
Ingredients have to be listed in descending order of their weight so the higher it appears, the more there is.
Highlighted ingredients
Ingredients that we believe to be controversial or inferior are highlighted in yellow with particularly low grade, highly contentious or excessively vague ingredients in red.
As fed composition
While the 'mixing bowl' composition is useful for knowing what went into the food, it doesn't always reflect what your dog is actually eating. This is because the processes that turn the ingredients into the finished pet food can significantly alter the relative weights of the ingredients.
For this reason we've calculated the approximate 'as fed' percentages for the main ingredient categories in the finished product.
Please note that these figures are very approximate. They are estimates based on the information provided by the manufacturer in the ingredients list so the clearer the terminology and the more percentages they provide, the more accurate our estimates will be. Wherever information is lacking, we always assume the worst.
Ingredient categories
◉ Meat ingredients: includes all meat and fish ingredients except isolated fats/oils.
◉Added oils and fats: includes all isolated oil and fat ingredients.
◉ Carb-rich ingredients: includes all ingredients derived from grains, pseudo-grains, potatoes and other starchy root vegetables, sweet potato and legumes (except whole peas which are categorised under fruit and veg) except for isolated protein and extracted oils. Also includes fibre supplements.
◉ Fruit and veg: includes all whole vegetables and fruits.
◉ Other: all other ingredients. Mostly made up by nutritional supplements and additives.
For more information on any ingredient, please take a look at our Dog Food Ingredient Glossary
The dry matter level of a nutrient is the percentage there would be in the food if all of the water was removed.
With water taken out of the equation, these figures allow the nutrient levels of foods of different types (like wet and dry) to be compared on an even playing field.

84.00 out of 100 - Excellent
Our unique product ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how beneficial we think a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period. Click here for more information
Country of origin:United Kingdom
A technological additive is any substance added to a pet food "for a technological purpose and which favourably affects the characteristics of feed".
The most common categories of technological additives include preservatives and antioxidants, gelling agents and thickeners and probiotics.
While the primary effects of technoloical additives are certainly 'favourable' (increased shelf life in the case of preservatives & antioxidants, better food texture and consistency in the case of gelling agents and thickeners etc.) some have been linked to health problems in pets and should be treated with caution.
Unfortunately, many technological additives do not have to be declared by the manufacturer so just because they do not appear on the label does not necessarily mean they are not in the food. If in doubt, ask the manufacturer directly exactly what technological additives their foods contain.

Got a couple of sample packs for my very fussy Swiss Shepherd. It took a little coaxing each time to get him to start eating, but once he starts he really seems to love the taste. Unfortunately, both times we have fed him a small amount of this, a couple of hours after eating he becomes very restless and ends up with very bad acid reflux, complete with projectile vomiting bile. We've not experienced this with any other food we've tried so far. He does have a chicken allergy (and possibly beef too, which makes it so hard to find a good food for him) so I have to assume something in the ingredients for this really disagrees with his tummy too.Catherine Rowe •4 months ago

Hi Is this food ok for a dog with pancreatitis and diabetis as the fat content seems quite highCatherine Rowe lesleyrm •4 months ago
Certainly suitable for for diabetic dogs as V low carbon which is why I switched to this.Pavlina Franc •4 months ago
How is it that this food 50/50 is comparable with Orijen 85/15? I am currently feeding Orijen and W&D but not sure if switching fully is a good idea as they are used to high content meat since puppies.Labrador Mum •4 months ago
Just ordered two of the 2kg bags to try. Chicken and duck - didn’t see the turkey and duck anywhere. As sample packs don’t really give enough time to see their gut and changing them over I thought 2kg will be enough to know if it suits our lab bitch. Previous highly rated food hasn’t suited her. Wasted a lot of money so fingers crossed. Her last food caused anal gland and yeasty ear issues. So super excited and low food mileage too! It’s made in Barnsley and we are in the Peaks - cannot wait to try with free next day DPD Delievry. Trying some treats too! We’re going on holiday soon so glad to know if we are happy we can easily order supplies for the trip.Catherine Rowe Labrador Mum •4 months ago
The turkey and duck is not shown on the front end of the website. But if you go into the 6kg bags it is shown in there. I couldn't find it to start with either! Their website is a bit clunky I think and doesn't always do them justice.Shers Catherine Rowe •3 months ago
It's only sold in the 6kg bags. My very fussy cockapoo loves the chicken̈ flavour. So I thought I would get some samlpe packs of the dual protein, she woofed them down so I ordered a 6kg bag, fingers crossed she'll eat it.Catherine Rowe •5 months ago
Transitioning 2 of my terriers on to this food. Had no problem at all with this. They love it, they have lost a bit of weight (even though I am feeding them slightly more than their old food) and they seem a bit more energetic than previously. Also my little girl has megaoesophagus but is coping really well with this food in fact she has hardly any choking at all since she's been half and half on this so very pleased with that. 10 out of 10 so far for this food. On this basis I'll be transitioning my two 6 month old pups to this as well after my adult dogs are both fully transitioned. Can't fault the service from this company either it's been first class so far.Walker Catherine Rowe •5 months ago

Turkey & Duck Dual Protein is now back in stock.Catherine Rowe •7 months ago
Can't be more impressed with this company so far. They have let me purchase a bag hot off the production run before it's available online to try. David has been so kind and helpful and the dogs all seem to love the samples of their other foods I don't doubt they will like this one. Can't wait for small bite version to hit the website!Catherine Rowe •7 months ago
I was also interested in trying this but constantly out of stock on the website. I used the contact form and had a nice, helpful gentleman reply quickly by return apologising for lack of availability. Apparently this food was much more popular than they had anticipated but they are doing a production run now so should be available again very soon. He also said they would likely be making a "small bite" version in future, which as the owner of 5 terriers I was very pleased about. Could not have been more helpful and obliging. Impressed with the palatability of the samples I purchased all the dogs love it so I can't wait to try them on this.FletcherWCS •8 months ago
Curious to find out more as it’s one of the best rated cold pressed about, but even the W&D website doesn’t even seem to list it?!Walker FletcherWCS •8 months ago
Good afternoon, you'll find the product in the 6kg section - https://www.walkeranddrake.com/collections/6kg-cold-pressed-dog-food I hope that helps.
